" The Origin Of Sin

by: Pastor Naeema Houston

1John 3:8
“He that committeth sin is of the Devil; for the Devil sinneth from the beginning.  For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the Devil.”

We must be convinced that God's word is true.  According to God's word JESUS’ finished work on the cross of Calvary forever abolished man's sin condition. We see in 1 John 3:8 this word "committeth" this is the word ‘commit’.

When we define this word in the English dictionary and Greek dictionary we see the words surrender, perform, pledge and compromise.   The Greek word in this verse for ‘committeth’ is "poi echo" which means to make sin, or to create sin, a deliberate act.

Now hear this, for years in the body of Christ we have given ourselves an out by using this phrase. "As long as we don't practice sin we are ok because you see, everyone sins. Unfortunately this thought pattern gave power to the idea that we cannot walk this walk without occasionally sinning. Romans 3:23 declares “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” This scripture is not giving power to sin, it’s just denoting that everyone had a sin condition. The very next verse, 24 says:  “Being justified ,(made right), freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Now you may say if we can walk in Christ without willfully sinning why did Apostle John say in 1 John 2:1 that if any man sin we have an advocate (case pleader)?  He also used the term propitiation, which means atoning sacrifice.

He is the atoning sacrifice for the believer’s sins of ignorance. We all sin ignorantly without knowing. However let's remember the definition for the word "commit", these are some strong words: surrender, compromise, perform and pledge.  Presumptuous sin is planned and thought out it is a knowing compromise state of mind. When we willfully sin we are making a deliberate act to perform what our flesh desires. When we do this we are absolutely clear on what God's word says. Now according to the word of God there is no more sacrifice for this type of sin. Look at Hebrews 10:26 “For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins.”   Wow this is heavy often times when we hear a word like this we are tempted to embrace the thoughts that this is too extreme.   Does the Father really expect for us to live this Christian life without willfully sinning?   Absolutely he does, John said it in 1John 2:1a “My little children these things write I unto you that ye sin not.”   Then why on earth have we spent many years of our Christian life committing sin?   Why are there slip ups?   How is it that the enemy bullied us by causing us to yield to our own thoughts?  Listen carefully to this truth. The day that we gave our heart and mind to JESUS Christ, we asked him to live in our heart he took residence. When JESUS moved in our heart he brought his cleaning crew. The Holy Spirit, remember him, the one called alongside us to help us in this walk?   A lot of our defeat is because we don't understand the Holy Spirit's place in our life.  Immediately the Holy Spirit begins his work, one of his functions is revealing truth.  So he begins to nudge at our heart telling us the things in our heart and our life that the Father wants us to clean up.   He does it with such a hand of love softly wooing us to the Father's ways.   Now it is our turn to take part in this new and awesome covenant with the triune God.   We have the responsibility to give our heart totally to God and surrender our own will. It is here where we begin to release those sins of the flesh that has held us captive everyday listening for the Holy Spirit's voice as he leads and guides us to the truth of God's word.  Now there is a term for this it's called "Walking in the Spirit".   Where did we hear this term before?  Ahh…. look at 1 John 1:5-7 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”  What sin is he cleansing us from if we are walking in the light?  He’s cleansing us from the sin of ignorance that we commit unknowingly.   Look at Leviticus 4:1-3 “And The Lord Spoke unto Moses, saying,  Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of The Lord concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them: If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin offering.” In verse 3 he gives the Anointed priest instructions in how to make a sin offering for their sins.

Hear this!  Working out our souls salvation, is our responsibility of yielding to God.  Our born again process will be complete when we walk in the Spirit, but if we rebel when the Holy Spirit alerts us, we hinder the process.  Here is our answer 1 John 3:6 “Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not. Whosoever sinneth has not seen him neither know him.”  The word "seen" in this verse means revelation; meaning we have not received the revelation that we are brand new, and that sin has no dominion over us.  Remember the word ‘abide’ means stay, live, dwell. There are some definite ways that we can truly walk in the Spirit: daily prayer, meditation, songs, hymns, spiritual songs, fellow-shipping in a corporate setting continually with a house of believers.   Church is a secret weapon in the hands of God, believe it.  He ordained it. Doing these things on a consistent bases will cause supernatural success in the things of God.

Thank you for reading these words truly they are inspired by God's Holy Spirit to empower the believer.

The Call To Intimacy is an invitation to experience the supernatural manifestation of God.  It is a tool that will usher you into an intimate place with God.  This book is written based on a heavenly visitation I received from the Father.  In that visitation the Lord required that I press to experience Him in a supernatural way – through intimacy.  –
